During Fashion Week I attended Oh You Pretty Things at Liberty of London. The exhibition showcases works by the likes of Alice Hawkins, Dan Jackson, Josh Olins, Angelo Pannetta and Jacob Sutton – all members of the new breed of fashion photographers.
While fashion photography can often (legitimately) be dismissed as a commercial vehicle merely designed to sell a product, I value those photographers and publications who have championed the medium as an art form, rather than commercial venture. I see photographers such as Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, and Annie Leibovitz as true artists, and their works allow an accessible peek into the cultural trends of the day.
I honestly want to buy some of these to display as art. Anyone want to invest a few thousand pounds in my art collection….?
On the subject of fashion photography – if you find yourself in London, be sure to check out the Irving Penn Portraits exhibition on now until 6 June at the National Portrait Gallery.
Love, Miss B xx
