I had my Chanel bag (and everything in it) stolen while enjoying a night out with some work friends this week, and now i’m completely distraught. Having just been to the hilarious Fashion and Politics night at the Parliamentary Waffle House (see earlier post), we moved onto a nice wine bar off Carnaby St. I’d tucked my bag safely under my feet, and when I looked down 10 minutes later, it had been taken without any of us noticing a thing.
As anyone who knows fashion is aware, Chanel bags are rather wildly expensive, but this is usually justified by the cost-per-wear basis and fact that you will have them forever. But more than the money, I’m devastated because it was very sentimental to me. When my mum passed away, she had not had a chance to give me the 21st birthday present she had been working on for months, so I bought this with a part of my inheritance and always thought of it as a present especially from her that I would treasure forever. She was lovely – glossy black caviar leather, refused to scratch regardless of how many battering tube journeys I took her on, only 5 years old and classic. She had travelled the world with me, was always my first choice of bag date whenever I had a fabulous soiree to attend, and had become a signature part of my style.
As i’m sure whoever stole it only wanted the cash inside, i’m praying that some good fashion karma will lead to Coco being found by a good samaritan and somehow finding her way back to me. If not, i’m putting myself on a serious spending diet so that I can replace her as soon as I can (though it will never quite be the same).
I shall miss you dear Coco.
Moments with Coco: on our first trip to Paris together; at London Fashion Week; again in Paris last year.
Do you have one signature piece which your style would be incomplete without?
Love, Miss B xx
*P.S. as my camera (along with everything else I depend on on a daily basis) was unfortunately also in my bag, I will not be able to share pictures of my latest adventures with you for a few weeks. In the meantime, I’ll make sure there’s plenty of other loveliness for you to look at on here.
P.P.S. please let this be a lesson to always hold your bag on your lap and never out of direct sight, and to always insure bags that cost more than the monthly rent (which embarrassingly, I did not).

Oh my! Poor you!
I’ve had some things (although less expensive) of mine stolen as well and it is the most horrifying feeling!
I cannot understand why people do this!
Am planning on purchasing the same bag as you in a few months and I will remember your advice, I’ll never take the strap of my body! I have a Louis V. Speedy and I always am extra careful, holding it tightly!
Am devestated for you xxx

I’m the same – because I would never do that to someone else, I forget to protect myself against the people who do.

People are terrible, aren’t they? Stories like this just break my heart. And sometimes it isn’t all about the money, but about the sentiment attached to something.
Lovely bag, though. Absolutely a classic.
I don’t have a signature piece… I suppose more and more pearl necklaces, but that isn’t a single item. ๐

First time visit to your blog : )
My hand bag was being snatched by motorist when I walked at the roadside few years back and it was a nightmare cancelling credit cards and making police report. Ladies out there must be careful.
Eimear says
Oh my god that’s devastating, people who rob things are disgusting, so sad for your bag, especially considering its sentimental as well as monetary value ๐

OH MY GOD this is even more heartbreaking hearing it the second time around. So lovely to meet you last night! x

I can’t believe how low people will stoop… that is so awful. God I would be bereft if I had one and it got stolen. One day I will own one I am determined about that, as you say they are timeless and to be fallen in love with. I hope she finds her way back to you one day… you should not be without such a beauty. xxx

Gosh, that is SO shit! Did you happen to get it back? I thought I had it bad, lost my Chanel sunglasses about a month ago and I am still gutted! This SUCKS!! X
