How did you all spend the weekend my lovelies? Summer is (finally) in full swing here, and I aim to spend as much time soaking up the Vitamin D as humanly possible.
My favourite thing to do when the weather is this gorgeous is to find a grassy patch of heaven and settle for a few hours of blissful nothingness. Today, after an early lunch at our favourite Cambridge Japanese restaurant on the river, the Clever Boyfriend and I headed for the banks of the Cam, set in the grand grounds of Kings College. There, we settled under the shade of a willow tree, with the wild meadows behind and the sweeping lawns leading up to the Kings College Chapel in front.
Dessert was a picnic of French pastries, English strawberries and elderflower presse*, taken as the ducklings and punts drifted past in front of us. I love catching snippets of the guide’s endlessly fascinating tidbits (the Kings bridge was the last place in the world where a mortal duel took place; the building of the Chapel spanned the reign of three kings…). A blissful few hours was spent doing absolutely nothing other than drawing silly pictures, reading and gazing at the wispy clouds floating by in the endless blue sky.

How is your favourite way to spend a summer afternoon?
Love, Miss B xx
* why is it that food always tastes better when eaten in the form of an outdoor picnic?

You can’t beat punting on the Cam in summer whist sipping a glass of Veuve Cliquot. I found your site through 40 not out. Love her blog.
Thanks Andrea – I’m so pleased you’re familiar with the pleasures of punting on the Cam in summer. Strawberries and champagne are, of course, obligatory!
Ah 40 Not Out – I love her too! Thanks for visiting xx
