While some shows hook me in almost before the first model has even stepped onto the runway, others linger at the back of my mind for weeks and months, almost without me realising. Christopher Kane’s Autumn/Winter ’11 show (last Fashion Week in February) is firmly in the latter camp.
As I sat watching the show, I was at first remarkably underwhelmed (to be fair to Kane, this is partially because I had such high expectations after the preceding Spring/Summer show). But then last week, out of nowhere, it hit me that actually, I’m quite in love with the collection. From the sheer mesh smattered with twinkly aurora borealis paillettes to the remarkable lava lamp-esque gel-filled pvc which trimmed otherwise sleek black dresses, it was unlike anything else I saw that week.
It was rather akin to a 90’s rich kids’ party meets a LSD-fuelled galactic trip that somehow, with the help of a good slip underneath (a bra wouldn’t go amiss either) seems right for the streets of Europe. And while not as strong as his previous collection (a riot of Princess Margaret’s 70s looks transformed into neon lace), it is demonstrative of Kane’s evolution as a designer. I am so looking forward to his Spring/Summer show at Fashion Week next week!
What do you think of Christopher Kane? Are you looking forward to any shows in particular at London Fashion Week?

This looks very sheer indeed!
Playful underpinnings wouldn’t go amiss;-)
Christopher Kane’s show was lovely to look at.
I was more impressed with the footwear rather than the garments.

Oh, I much prefer shows that linger in your mind and keep you thinking of them for weeks and months to come. John Rocha last season was like that for me.
This season I’m quite looking forward to Unique, Aminaka Wilmont, and Corrie Nielsen (my absolute favourite collection from last season). I quite like going to the shows without any expectations. I much prefer to be open and surprised.

I loveee it so much! The little gel filled pvc details are amazing, reminds me of those fantastic pencil cases i’d have in the 90’s, hah!
