Hello, and welcome back to A Girl, A Style (version 3.0)!
Firstly, I should probably apologise for the accidental blogging hiatus. No sooner had I written this post about taking a break from politics and going full-time freelance and having more time to blog, than I started working as much as I ever did in government (and therefore none of that free time I had planned for). But as I’m in the immediate season following a major career change, and everything that has come along has been such an amazing opportunity – writing for magazines I love and consulting on social media + digital strategy for some of my favourite brands and magazines – the only thing to do was say ‘yes!’ to (almost) everything life threw at me and just ride the wave; even if it meant having no time to spare for a while.
Eight years ago (today!) I started this little blog of mine merely – I thought – as a creative outlet and a place to share the things I liked and the places I was exploring around London (I had just moved halfway around the world from Australia and was working a seriously intense job drafting crime and security legislation for the British government). Little did I know it would grow into this wonderful community of like-minded friends and readers I collected along the way, and afford me such incredible opportunities and experiences along the way. And the fact I managed to combine my skills in communications and strategy (from 15 years spent working as a political advisor) with those I learned whilst building an online platform from scratch and turn that into a new career? Well, I still pinch myself at least once a week that I’m getting to do what I do.
As it had been about four years since A Girl, A Style had had a proper makeover – and to be honest I couldn’t bear to look at the old design another day longer – it was time to build a new site that matched what I wanted this blog to be today (rather than what it was when I first started back in 2010). I had been attempting the redesign myself for months when I finally admitted defeat, accepted that I don’t have to do everything myself, and hired the brilliant and exceptionally lovely Cat to bring everything to life. There’s still a few kinks to iron out, but I hope you’ll all love the new design as much as I do.
I’m excited to start bringing you more lifestyle, travel and beauty content – as well as the usual outfit posts I know you love. Initially I’ll be posting 1-2 times a week, but then hope to build to a more consistent 3-4 posts a week in addition to a fortnightly newsletter (coming at the end of this month) once life is a tiny bit less crazy. As always, please let me know what you’d like to see more of around here.
And from the bottom of my heart – THANK YOU for all so much for your kind words and support these past 8 years. I hope there’s many, many more to come!
Love, Briony xx
