Happy Friday! This week whizzed by in the blink of an eye but was mostly full of good things. I met Mr Jimmy Choo (the man himself!), caught up with some friends, had an IPL facial at Skin Laundry in Liberty, and got in some serious self-care time in the evenings. Tomorrow I have a playdate with my godson in the botanical gardens, and Sunday I’m planning a blissfully lazy introvert day of yoga and a massage appointment in the morning followed by a whole afternoon of reading and binge-watching rom coms on Netflix with Coco curled up by my side (my husband is in Japan for two weeks which means I can watch all the girly flicks I like 😜).
Here’s what else I’m loving right now:
1. Savour the last weekend of summer // Autumn officially begins next week, which means it’s time to say farewell to summer in style. Stop to smell the last of the roses around the neighbourhood, make a batch of jam with the last of the summer fruit (I’ll be making a big vat of my annual peach and apricot compote this evening), eat an ice cream al-fresco, and have one last picnic in the park.
2. Upgrade your sleepwear // Hibernation season is almost upon us, so it’s time to upgrade your pyjamas to a cute new pair you can’t wait to get into the second you get home. I recently got this white silk set and they look exactly the same as my Olivia von Halle set (shown here) but are a quarter of the price (which means I’m not afraid to actually sleep in them, ha!). Plus they’re chic enough that I don’t feel like a total slob opening the front door in them or wearing them all sunday morning.
3. Get eyes that sparkle // If you’re a fellow Charlotte Tilbury fan, you’ll love this eyeshadow palette that just launched yesterday. Each shade is so pretty and wearable, and has every colour you need for every day as well as a bit of evening drama and nothing you don’t (unlike most palettes, where I find I’d only use half the shades and the others are wasted). It’s an online exclusive and super limited-edition (last year’s version sold out in 24 hours), so be quick if you want one.
4. Learn how to be a Princess // I confess I first picked up this book about Princess Margaret mostly it’s cover, but I can’t wait to get stuck into it this weekend. If, like me, you’re a bit of a royal history geek, you’ll love this one.
5. Be the girl in the chic LBD // I did a big ASOS order this week and although 90% of it is going back (isn’t that always the way?), this dress is definitely a keeper. I love the bow tie details, the blouson sleeves + perfect midi length, and it will look just as chic teamed with ankle boots + a biker jacket for off-duty as it will with red lipstick + heels for the office. The perfect solution to those “I have nothing to wear” days!
6. Conquer your ‘To Do’ list // Write yourself a big ‘to do’ list of things you want to get done this month and then try to cross off at least three things that have been niggling away at you. Whenever I’m feeling stressed, it’s one of the fastest ways to make me feel a better and a little less overwhelmed. Although I spend most of my life online, I’m old-fashioned when it comes to thank you notes + lists and find it helps to get everything down on paper (plus crossing something off is so much more satisfying than just deleting a task on your phone). I’m using this notepad for my daily lists and it makes even the most menial tasks feel a little nicer.
7. Do your wardrobe change-over // With the last of the summer heat behind us, it’s time to do the first stage of the seasonal wardrobe swap. I like to do it in two parts; the first half when it starts to feel like autumn, and the second half when it’s properly cold and the serious layers are required. This weekend I’m cleaning and packing away all my flat sandals, basket bags, swimsuits, and the most summery dresses that won’t transition well for autumn, and pulling out my trench coat, leather jacket, sweaters, blazers, and more autumnal accessories in their place. If you’re a fellow city-dweller and thus short on storage space, put everything into your empty suitcases or under-bed storage (I use a couple of these storage bags for my out-of-season coats and clothes and they are breathable yet keep dust out).
