Balmy Nights and Marc Jacobs

Summer has finally arrived here in England (at least for this week). The past week has been hot, and I’ve been joyfully having picnics on the riverbank most evenings, going on bike rides all over Cambridge, and relishing the chance to wear my summer wardrobe.I picked up this skirt on sale in Zara last weekend (I am all about white lace in summer), and because it was too hot to wear anything more substantial, paired it with an old lingerie-style blush silk peplum camisole for a mini girl date with my friend S on Friday night. Because anything black felt decidedly wrong, I climbed in to the very back of my wardrobe and pulled out my old favourite Marc Jacobs stam bag (one of my very first ‘proper’ bags that I bought myself when I got my first grown-up job) and treasured bow heels from way back in ’03 (which by blogger standards makes them ‘vintage’) – still one of my favourite collections of Marc’s to date (hence why I still can’t bring myself to part with them, no matter how battered they are now).

And just like that, I was suddenly, and accidentally, channeling myself circa the Australian summer of 2004, when I would raid vintage shops for pearls and 50s silk slips to wear as dresses over white tank tops with a bow tied around my waist, and pore over the pages of Vogue between class. I might have a bigger budget than I did that summer, but some things will never change. Wearing: Marc Jacobs bag and shoes, Zara skirt, vintage top, Jersey Pearl necklace, ‘love’ necklace c/ Grand Bazaar London, Michael Kors watch (similar style here), Mimco cuff, arrow bracelet c/ Poshlocket

Do you have treasured favourites in your wardrobe that you pull out years later?

Love, Miss B xx

  1. This is lovely. This might sound odd but I really appreciate your aesthetic – from your blog to your Instagram account – everything is so pretty! Very happy to have found your blog! xK

  3. Gorgeous pics. You look absolutely stunning! Love your photography style. You never fail to perfectly capture the atmosphere of your “photo shoots” :)

  4. Those shoes look perfect, I understand completely your refusal to part with them, I love digging through old stuff that haven’t been worn in quite some time and finding a new love for it! You look beaut in your summer attire, I hear it’s raining this week :( Oh well, it was nice while it lasted xx

  5. I love those shoes–the little bows are just too sweet! As far as my favorites go, I have a great pair of vintage boots that used to belong to my mother. I don’t wear them as often as I probably should, but it’s always a nice surprise when I stumble upon them in the back of my closet!

  6. Happy to see Summer eventually got to England! Blush really is the perfect colour for this season and you rock it like no other.
And I can only agree with you:why would you wanna part with something that perfect and beautiful?

  7. Oh this is lovely. You look so radiant! And yes, white lace is bliss in summer. I’m still ogling that skirt online at the moment. Now I am just starting earning (only a teensy wage but more than being a humble postgrad student!) I am looking at finding some great investment pieces that I’ll love for an age.
I was popping round some antique shops today and saw so many vintage rhinestone necklaces- thought of you!

  8. I totally adore your blog and just how dreamy everything seems! I can’t wait to see your posts when you move to Parieee for a little while! I can’t get rid of my excessively battered red bow shoes, they make me feel like Dorothy and even though I can’t wear them because the heel broke, i will never throw them away! xx

  9. Hello Briony! I think the outfit is really great and the shoes – no matter what season they are from – are oh-so pretty! Now I desperately want a pair of shoes with a cute bow. And your hair looks super, too – do you have hightlights or are the ends dyed? I’m currently checking out hairstyles since I need a change but don’t want to chop off too much, so a change in colour seems to be a good idea.
    Wishing you a wonderful day,
    Jessica

  10. Everything about your posts is so dreamy! I adore that you’ve held on to old pieces in your closet. There’s too much temptation to buy new things all of the time. Nothing is as wonderful as pulling out a beloved piece and reliving all of the memories when you first wore it!

  11. B you look beautiful in this outfit – the lace and blush shades really suit you! I don’t blame you for keeping those Marc Jacobs bow heels – I fell in love with them when you wore them to the beach with us! And more so in you for wearing bow heels to the beach! xxx
