A Girl, A Style

The fantasy ball

Fashion 8 May 2010

6

The Chic Tribe: Sienna Miller (Pucci); Rachel Zoe (Marc Jacobs); Margherita Missoni (Missoni)

I often say that I have two fashion styles: my real life, and my fantasy life. My real life involves what I hope is a chic, yet practical mix of blazers, skinny jeans, Marc Jacobs heels or flats for walking around town, and a heavy dose of accessories. But in my fantasy life, I jet-set around the world on a monthly basis, have Karl Lagerfeld as a godfather, can disregard practicality and wear the kind of heels one can only wear when they have a driver, and am obviously slightly richer, taller and blessed with a metabolism that allows me to eat french pastries all day while looking like I don’t. And in this fashion fantasy, the Met Ball is my dream event.

Of all the red carpets in the year, my absolute favourite is the annual Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala – and this year’s theme, American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity, was no exception. Unlike the awards ceremonies (where the dress code is fairly conservative), this is where the real fashion magic happens – frothy couture gowns happily sashay down the carpet alongside chic tuxedo jumpsuits. And I love that the designers themselves take along their favourite women as their dates.

The Crown Princesses: Coco Rocha (Zac Posen); Camille Belle (Jason Wu); Doutzen Kroes (Zac Posen)

Some of my favourite moments: Sienna officially stepping out with Jude again (they are absolutely my favourite celebrity couple – i’m very excited to see them back together again), Camille Belle looking like royalty in Jason Wu (I think if I could look like any woman, it would be her), and Chanel Iman looking pure 70s chic in a gold sequined catsuit.

The Cool Girls: Chanel Iman (Michael Kors); Alexa Chung (Phillip Lim); Carey Mulligan (Miu Miu)

Do you love a good red carpet? What is your fantasy event?

Love, Miss B xx

Hmm good question! I guess hte obvious answer would be the Oscars but some of the Cannes red carpet can be fun and a bit playful too. Hmmm I’ll have to think about that one! 😛

I love a great red carpet! But goodness, my fantasy event? Where do I begin?

You’re right, Sienna and Jude. <3 And Sienna looked stunning, as did Camille. I had other favorites not listed… Anne Hathaway, SJP, and Naomi Campbell. Etc.

Anna, SJP and Naomi all looked amazing (except I would have given Anne better hair). They were in my original list but had to narrow it down a bit 😉

Er, can I come with you in your fashion parallel universe please?

My fantasy event would probably be Cannes as it goes on for 10 days, it’s bathed in sunshine and I could have a limitless amount of outfit changes! xx

Of course you may! And don’t worry, Cannes would definitely be on the schedule!

I have to admit I was totally underwhelmed with this year’s fashion turn out at the MET gala. It just feels like everyone’s gotten a stylist and wants to play it safe. There’s no life in these looks! This is supposed to be the Oscars of the fashion world! I want more!
I do love that we get to see the designers with their designs though.
This post has inspired me to give my two cents about the fashions on my own blog!
