From Diptyque to Chanel: A Perfect Day in London

Fashion, London 15 September 2011

21

On Tuesday, I took a day off from the day job, put on my new Mulberry booties and went off to London for a day crammed with appointments.

To celebrate their 50th anniversary,ย Diptyqueย (one of my favourite brands, full stop) have a snazzy little vintage 1961 French Renault driving all over London for two weeks before taking off to Paris for Fashion Week there. And since the lovely people at Diptyque loaned me the car (complete with a very dapper driver), I decided to turn it into one of those perfect London days and cram in all manner of loveliness in between all my appointments with PRs.

First up was an appointment at the Chanel head offices (a dream come true), so afterwards I took advantage of being on Bond Street and raced off to (again) try on the glittery shoes I can’t stop dreaming of in Miu Miu. Afterwards, I hopped back in the car and it was over to Lowndes Street in Belgravia, where I had an invite from Pierre Herme to sample the wares at his London salon (delicious is an understatement – but more on that in a later post). After I’d had my fill of sugary gourmand bliss, I went over to look at Karl Lagerfeld’s fantastical Chanel installation at Harrods (more on this later), which was so beautiful that I had to physically force myself away before I missed all the afternoon appointments! From there it was over to Shoreditch (I waved to Big Ben through the car window as we passed my London office at the Houses of Parliament on the way) for rose bellinis and some pre-Fashion Week hair primping at my favourite London salon, Taylor Taylor, before a marathon Fashion Week organisation session with Liberty London Girl into the late hours.

I am so stuffed full of pleasurable experiences (and the subsequent sleep-deprivation), and Fashion Week hasn’t even begun yet!

How do you love to spend a precious mid-week day off work and all to yourself?

Love, Miss B xx

Well, I would LOVE to spend all my “mid-week days off work and all to myself” just like you did, but unfortunately they’re hardly ever quite as interesting :p Happy LFW! x

Ah, sadly midweek days off work are as rare as golddust to me, so whenever I do take one, I ensure it’s as fun and fabulous as possible!

This sounds like such a perfect day.
The Diptyque car is amazing. I am just about to make my first Diptyque purchase but am struggling to decide which perfume should be my first? Any suggestions?

Ooh, you can’t go wrong with a Diptyque candle or scent, in my book. For Autumn/Winter, I adore the L’Ombre dans L’Eau fragrance (smells like the Baies candle – black Bulgarian roses and blackcurrant leaves). It smells like luxury in a bottle!

i am totally crushing on a Diptyque candle at the moment and am lusting after all the photos you just posted! What filter are you using on the camera? They look like hipstamatic but whatever they are they are certainly beautiful and inspirational! I saw the Chanel exhibition on Sunday, how amazing was it?! I am totally jealous you got a photo with the giant 2.55 It’s my dream bag! Macaroons and Miu Miu heels equal bliss! x

Thank you! I love the ‘Earlybird’ filter on the Instagram app (I’m a slight Instagram addict). And I could not get enough of the Chanel exhibit, it was such fun!

Sounds heavenly. In London, my favourite thing to do on a day off was to walk from my home in South Kensington towards Sloane Square – make a stop at the Joseph store on the way to look at pretty shoes. Grab a spot of lunch at the Daylesford cafe in Sloane Square, then head to Les Senteurs to sample some incredible perfumes. Depending on how tired I felt, I would either get a hot chocolate at Baker and Spice, or head to Tate Britain and spend time in the Clore gallery full of paintings by Turner , my favourite artist. And finally, take the tube to Oxford Circus to get tea and macaroons at Cafe Liberty, before heading home.

In Delhi, I usually end up pottering about in an artsy neighbourhood called Hauz Khas village – ancient monuments, lovely cafes and funky stores. Plus I always run into friends there ๐Ÿ™‚

The literally would not get out of my head! So much, I had to eventually succumb and buy them just to stop the incessant daydreaming ๐Ÿ˜‰

What a delightful blissful day full of frenchness! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I look forward to reading your posts!
I usually don’t take days off in the middle of the week but we’re allowed to leave our office earlier on Fridays. I try to do something special just to get my head off the week of work like a long walk through Central Park, a treatment at the spa, a visit to the MOMA…

What a perfect day! I’m just planning a secret, stolen day in London by myself too, and may well find myself in some of the same places. Thanks for the beautiful inspiration!
